I'm sad to learn that John Mollo passed away this week at the age of 86.

For those that don't know, he was the costume designer for Alien, for which he also designed the Nostromo patches and crew insignia, along with the Weylan-Yutani wings. It was months ago, at the outset of my research for Speculative Identities, that I first learned this and really became familiar with his role in the making of some of my favorite sci-fi films. And I’m still looking forward to everything I’ll discover as I dig into his books on military uniforms, and further investigate the work he did for Alien, Star Wars, Outland and Event Horizon.

So I'd like to say thanks, John, for everything you left us.
